Finding The Ultimate Fix

In a recent survey on Instagram & Facebook we asked, “What’s one thing that helps you get through your day?” (Other than Jesus, of course.) We got all kinds of responses. “Oxygen” (no kidding), other people said “my dreams”, “my kids”, and even “Dr. Pepper”. But one of the biggest responses was “Coffee” (the drink that keeps America ticking).

We all have a FIX – something we go to, perhaps without even thinking much about it – for relief, comfort, or a pick-me-up.
What’s yours?

It’s easy to identify your fixes. Just document your day! Like a highlighter to your favorite book, they are obvious. Coffee might be number one for most people, then come other common fixes like social media, shopping, sweets, TV shows, hair products.

No fix is instant. It takes a while to enjoy coffee, and there is a learning curve to social media. A fix starts with a tiny bit of commitment, becomes a habit, and ultimately arriving as a fix (if you do it long enough).

Finding-your-fix-statement1Most of our fixes are rooted in our desire to belong. We go along with what other people are doing, gulping down that first mouthful of black water, with some resistance and a ton of sugar. Marketing campaigns target this idea of belonging. We are created to belong, so we don’t need much convincing.

Millions are spent in the pursuit of belonging. And millions feel emptiness they cannot express yet the hunger pains continue.

Like cutting into a hollow cake, something is profoundly wrong here.

And yet, all this time.

All the while. In our vain pursuits, the Ultimate Fix has pursued us. Within Him is found the satisfaction and belonging our weary hearts crave!

“FIX your eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…” ~Hebrews 12

Jesus. Our Ultimate Fix.

Ok, great. That sounds fantastic and I want it! Perhaps you’re thinking. Grab-and-go sandwich style. Slow down and remember how your current fixes began. Here’s my challenge to you… are you ready to begin the journey of responding to the Ultimate Fix who is in pursuit of you?

When your response collides with His loving pursuit, you BELONG.

It’s worth spelling out.

The first time I heard God’s Great Dance Floor*, a song by Martin Smith (I hadn’t heard the Chris Tomlin version yet), it was like a part-ay popped into my headphones! Awkward dancing while buckled into my Southwest seat cushion that-doubles-as-a-flotation-device began. I hummed along.

I’m coming back to the start
Where You found me
I’m coming back to Your heart
Now I surrender
Take me
This is all I can bring

You’ll never stop loving us
No matter how far we run
You’ll never give up on us
All of Heaven shouts
Let the future begin

So let the chains fall off
God is freedom
And here we feel Your heart
Your heartbeat for us

I feel alive, I come alive
I am alive on God’s great dance floor

Inside the Ultimate Fix is freedom from mediocrity. It’s an invitation to dance!

When your response collides with His loving pursuit, you BELONG on this dance floor.

Before you leave the page…

> Has Jesus been your satisfaction today? I’ll admit I have days that I’m fixing my eyes on everything BUT Him. If that’s you, take a moment to read about His pursuit of you. Let it call out your response…

For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form. Colossians 2:9

The Word was first, the Word present to God, God present to the Word. The Word was God, in readiness for God from day one. Everything was created through him; nothing—not one thing!— came into being without him. What came into existence was Life, and the Life was Light to live by. The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness; the darkness couldn’t put it out. John 1:1-5

Your kingdom is a kingdom eternal; you never get voted out of office. God always does what he says, and is gracious in everything he does. Psalm 145:13

Then Jesus turned to the Jews who had claimed to believe in him. “If you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure. Then you will experience for yourselves the truth, and the truth will free you. John 8:32

Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades. The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God. Give her everything she deserves! Festoon her life with praises! Proverbs 31:30

Finding Your Fix SStatement1-01> One thing I know about Jesus is He never resists an invitation. Prayer is not a ritual that you do before a meal or at church. It’s a rhythm of life that continues throughout the 24-hour day. One way to center on Christ is short but powerful prayer: “Thank you, Lord Jesus, that you are with me right now.” Whatever you are doing…shopping for toilet paper, studying for an exam, or about to have a difficult conversation with someone, you are not alone at all! Jesus is present, and your prayer is an invitation to experience this reality. His presence is our Ultimate Fix!
