We hear from many of you that our song, My Adoration, has become a favorite of yours. I know it is because God has met you as you have worshipped Him along with us. In surrendering all that we are to God, we find our hearts spilling over with adoration of all that He is. Still, these days there are a lot of difficult things to leave at the feet of Christ. I take a look at the state of our nation, all the jobs lost and so many people struggling. Is this still a time when we can spill over in our adoration of Jesus? I believe it is the offerings we give in times that are dry and barren, in the places of brokenness that God is most pleased with. And even here, in our deepest pain, in our greatest need, he is worthy of our worship.
I find myself asking God how I can spill over in my love for Him today. No matter what the cost or my feeling of lack, how can I offer Him my best? For many, in this hard time in our economy, God may ask us to make sacrifices of worship. I am reminded of the woman who spent all she had to live on to anoint the feet of Jesus with a priceless perfume. The Pharisees who watched thought it a waste, but Jesus was infinitely honored. (John 12:3-7) And the offering of two fish and five loves of bread given by the young boy when Jesus was preaching. Jesus took his offering and multiplied it to feed thousands of hungry people. (John 6:1-13)
While sitting here at my computer, I often glance at the photo of a young girl, Jonalyn, who lives in the Philippines. Her cards are at my desk, and her letters that shower my family with thankfulness are displayed. The words of Jonalyn touch my heart because she tells me that she has found hope in Christ. By sponsoring Jonalyn through Compassion International, I allowed my love for Jesus to spill over into her life that she might know the indescribable gift of salvation in God. I wonder how many children just like her are waiting to receive this gift. How will our struggling economy affect the number of children who will be reached? Or will this be our finest hour as we go beyond our own need, and sacrifice unto Christ for others who are in greater need? I believe Jesus will take our offering and multiply it to reach the nations, if we are willing to spill over in our love for Him.
Will you take a moment to ask God if you are to reach a child through Compassion International? Should this be your expression of sacrificial worship to Him this year?
